Something for everyone in Florianopolis
Floripa, as Florianopolis is affectionately called, is a city that appeals to all kinds of tourists. With 42 beaches, two lagoons and sand dunes, the capital of Santa Catarina offers a variety of leisure options. As the headquarters of the two major universities in the state, the city has a significant youth population, which guarantees great options when it comes to partying.
If you like extreme sports, there is no lack of choices. In Lagoa da Conceição, a neighborhood in the eastern part of the city, you can practice most water sports – from the more democratic, like the Stand Up Paddle, to the more daring like the Fly Board. In addition, there are a number of beaches which are well known for the quality of their waves for practicing surfing, from the beginner to the professional level. It is no wonder that big names in world surfing, such as world champion Adriano de Souza, chose Florianópolis to live.
Of the 42 beaches in the city, some can only be reached by trail or by boat. The most famous of them is the Lagoinha do Leste. The trail hike to this beach is number 1 in the Tripadvisor site ranking, one of the leading travel sites in the world. Praia do Naufragados, Galheta and Squinho are also other great options if you like to do trails.
If you are looking for a nightlife, Floripa is the right place to be. In international jurerê, it is difficult to choose the best party, but one of the highlights is the pool party of P12, which always has great entertainment and attracts many beautiful people. In the east of the Island, on Tuesdays, the traditional forro da Joaca takes place. This nightclub is situated in front of the sand dunes of Joaquina and gathers locals and tourists alike to dance a good forró, traditional Brazilian dance.
In the central region, the small underground parties are the best options. For a more alternative experience, the Blues Velvet is a stage for parties of different styles and times, in the form of underground house parties. If you want to enjoy an internationally recognized electronic club, Green Valley is right next to Floripa. In 2013 and 2015, Balneário Camboriú’s main nightclub was named “Best Club in the World” by TOP 100 of the English magazine DJ Mag.
The calm and warm waters of the northern beaches of the island make the region the favorite of families with children. Besides the beaches, a super cool activity that is always greatly enjoyed by children is the Tamar Project. Every day guided tours are held, lasting one hour, going through the main actions of the project to protect sea turtles in Brazil. The visitor center of Florianópolis is the only one in the southern region of Brazil and is located on the beach of Barra da Lagoa, 25 km from the city center.
